In partnership with The Conservatory, and as part of celebrating its 45th season,  the Bucks County Choral Society presents a new community outreach program titled, “Voices of the Future,” a cash prize vocal competition for high school-aged students in Bucks County. Through this program, the Choral Society seeks to kindle a passion for choral music in high school students, foster high standards of musicianship, support professional development of outstanding young singers, and promote choral excellence while inspiring personal development.

VOICES OF THE FUTURE is a cash award competition with prizes of $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, $500 for third place and $250 for fourth place. The program seeks:

  • To kindle a passion for choral music singing in students attending high school (grades 9-12) in Bucks County
  • To foster high standards of musicianship
  • To support the professional development of outstanding young singers
  • To promote choral excellence while inspiring personal development

The program will pursue these objectives through the following process:

Eligibility - Voices of the Future is open to all high school aged students residing in Bucks County, PA and attending a public or private school. Home schooled students living in Bucks County are also eligible.

December 1, 2017 - due-date for submission of on-line applications through the Choral Society website. Each application must include uploaded MP3 recordings of the applicant performing two contrasting vocal selections of their choosing. For this year’s competition, it is preferred that audition selections be a song or aria from the classical repertoire in any language.

December 2017 - Ten semi-finalists will be selected and invited to attend individual auditions in front of a panel of three judges.

Saturday, January 20, 2018 - Auditions will be held in Doylestown. Once the auditions are completed, four finalists will be announced and invited to participate in a Vocal Master Class held on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Doylestown.

February 17, 2018 - The Vocal Master Class, hosted by The Conservatory, will be led by Suzanne DuPlantis (bio and photo below). The master class will provide emerging singers positive feedback related to musical interpretation, vocal technique, and connecting with an audience. This event will be open to the public and the order of winners will be announced at the end of the class.

Suzanne DuPlantis is the Co-founder and Artistic Director of Lyric Fest, a novel and dynamic song festival in Philadelphia that presents theme-oriented programs. She is a widely appreciated artist who is featured regularly as soloist throughout the United States. Her career has spanned opera, song, chamber music and oratorio, she is known for her communicative gifts. Suzanne made her New York debut in the St. John Passion of Bach at Alice Tully Hall with Musica Sacra and her Kimmel Center debut in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with The Philadelphia Orchestra. In oratorio, Suzanne has sung most of the major works of Bach, Elgar, Handel, Mendelssohn, Beethoven with orchestras and choruses throughout the United States.

June 2 & 3, 2018 - The first-place winner is invited to perform at the Choral Society’s concerts being held at Delaware Valley University. All program participants are invited to attend as guests of the Choral Society
