JAZZ PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

The Conservatory’s Jazz Performance Program develops musicianship and performance skills through ensemble playing devoted to the performance of jazz repertoire.  All instruments are welcome to audition.  Bill Gottshall, Performance Program Manager, will conduct all auditions.  There are two levels avaialable.

Intermediate Jazz: Thursdays, 6:30pm – 8:30pm (beginning 9/13 and ending 5/30/19)

Advanced Jazz: Tuesdays, 7:00pm – 9:00pm (beginning 9/11, ending 5/28/19)

To Audition:  Call 215-340-7979

Enrollment Ends: October 31, 2018

Tuition for Conservatory Private Lesson Students:  $70 per month ($630 for the year)

Tuition for Non-Conservatory Students: $80.00 per month ($720 for the year)

The Jazz Performance Program offers many benefits beyond what the former structure of the ensembles could support, including:

  • Small Groups for individualized technical feedback and development
  • Custom musical arrangements written for each student
  • Development of sight reading and improvisation skills
  • Applied music theory concepts
  • Teamwork, accountability, and collaboration: students are a part of a team and all parts of the team are critical to the whole performance
  • Building personal confidence
  • Formal ensemble audition experience including preparation and presentation
    • Both ensembles will be expected to audition for the Kimmel Center concert on 2/9/19 between 1:30-2:30pm (snow date is 2/23/19)
    • The Audition fee is included in the Performance Program tuition!
    • Opportunity to perform at The Conservatory’s Sounds of Excellence Concert at The Kimmel Center on 4/6/19
      • Dependent upon audition score, the ensembles are not guaranteed a spot in the concert.
      • Extra performance/recital opportunities planned at the discretion of Bill and The Conservatory staff.
      • An exclusive, offsite, public concert on June 2nd, 2019 at Second Baptist Church in Fountainville, PA

Participation in the Jazz Performance Program requires a high level of commitment as students will be expected to practice at home and come to all rehearsals prepared. Students who cannot commit to attending the Kimmel auditions/concert and all other performance dates will not be eligible to enroll. The Conservatory reserves the right to remove any student from the program due to: late or insufficient payment, frequent student tardiness, more than four absences during the school year, or consistent lack of preparation for rehearsals.
